Next stop is at Petra tou Romiou, regarded since ancient times as the birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love and fertility. Once in Paphos we head to the church of Panagia Crysopolitissa , built in the 13th century over the ruins of the largest Early Byzantine basilica on the island. Within the compound one can see St. Paul's Pillar, where, according to tradition, Saint Paul was flogged before the Roman Governor Sergius Paulus was converted to Christianity. Next to the picturesque harbor, in the Houses of Dionysus, we have the chance to admire some of the finest Roman mosaics dating the 3rd to the 5th century AD. This restored Roman villa probably belonged to a member of the ruling Roman class or to a local wealthy family. We finally visit the Tombs of the Kings. Spread over a vast area, these impressive underground tombs date back to the 4th century BC. They are carved out of solid rock with some being decorated with Doric pillars. Returned to your hotel late afternoon. 3rd Day NICOSIA NORTH AND SOUTH - Meeting with the guide and departure for Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, whose city centre is hedged by majestic Venetian walls. It is renowned for the archaeological and artistic treasures collected in its museums and, especially, to be the last city in the world divided by a wall. First visit at Archbishopric complex, which hosts the famous Byzantine museum, one of the most important museums in Europe of its kind, featuring the largest collection of icons on the island, and the Cathedral of St. John the inside contains a fresco cycle dating 1731. Through the Venetian Walls, via Famagusta Gate, we get to the Archaeological Museum where you can admire the fascinating collection of Cypriot artefacts and treasures of inestimable value. We continue to the old town of Nicosia (Laiki Yitonia), across the check-point, we will be guided to the Caravanserai, Buyuk Han, one of the best preserved Ottoman architecture. The Buyuk Han stands in the centre of the traditional market, within the walls, nearby the Selimiye Mosque, known formerly as the St.Sophia Cathedral. Return to the hotel in the afternoon. 4th Day TROODOS - Byzantine Churches (San Nicolaos, Kakopetria, Podithou, Asinou) Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the Troodos mountains and guided tour of some of the famous Byzantine churches, included in the 'UNESCO "World Heritage list: the Church of Ayios Nicolaos, completely painted with frescoes ranging from the eleventh to the seventeenth century , and the Byzantine church of Panagia of Pothithou. Free time for lunch. We continue our journey visiting the Panagia Tis Asinou Church, in Nikitari village, one of the ten UNESCO World Heritage churches on the Troodos. (KOLOSSI - WINE MUSEUM - OMODOS – Vouni - Koilani - LIMASSOL) ►Distances A journey that will take you back in time, to discover the secrets of the oldest and most famous wine on the island, Koumandaria, famous throughout the world. The itinerary, passes through some villages of wine production and Koumandaria, ideally takes you back to 1192 AD, when the Knights of San Giovanni dedicated themselves to perfecting the production techniques of what, perhaps, was the first wine in history to be identified by his name, Koumandaria in fact. The sun, a great ally of winemakers, partly dries the harvested grapes, concentrating their natural sugar content and thus enriching the taste. Then we will be able to admire the famous mosaics of the house of Dionysus. The floors of these patrician villas date back to a period between the third and fifth centuries AD and are considered among the most beautiful mosaics in the eastern Mediterranean. The last stop will be at the church of Panagia Chrysopolitissa, built in the thirteenth century, within whose complex you can see the column of St. Paul, where according to tradition the saint was scourged. Dinner in the hoteL. 3rd Day CHIROKITIA - NORTH AND SOUTH NICOSIA ► Distances Breakfast at the hotel. Tempo libero per pranzo e proseguiamo per visitare Il villaggio di Omodos e sosta per la visita del villaggio montano con il famoso monastero della Santa Croce fondato da S. Elena nel 327 d.C. Ritorno in albergo in pomeriggio . 5° GIORNO:. CURIUM - KOLOSSI - APOLLO YLATIS – LIMASSOL Raggiungeremo quindi Curium, importante città-stato, oggi uno dei luoghi archeologici piu’ importanti dell'isola. Qui visiteremo il magnifico teatro greco-romano del II secolo a.C, la casa di Eustolio, originariamente una villa romana, divenuta nel primo periodo cristiano un centro pubblico per le attivita' ricreative, una basilica paleocristiana, risalente al V secolo, che fu probabilmente la cattedrale di Kourion. Proseguiremo poi per Kolossi, sede dell’omonimo castello, esempio di architettura militare, costruito originariamente nel XIII secolo. Dopo la caduta di Acre nel 1291, divenne la base militare dei Cavalieri di S.Giovanni di Gerusalemme. L'ultima tappa ci portera’ al santuario di Apollo Ylatis, dio dei boschi, il cui culto fu celebrato dall'VIII secolo a.C fino al IV secolo d.C. Gli scavi hanno portato alla luce terme, luoghi per i pellegrini, una palestra ed un giardino sacro.Tempo libero al centro di Limassol . Ritorno in albergo . 6° GIORNO : FAMAGUSTA – Partenza in mattinata alla volta della parte turco-cipriota. Prima visita a Salamina, fondata da Teucro nel 1180 a.C, al suo ritorno dalla guerra di Troia visiteremo il teatro, l’anfiteatro, il gimnasio, le terme e la palestra. Proseguiremo poi per la citta’ medioevale di Famagosta, le cui possenti mura ne testimoniano il glorioso passato e la storica necessita’ della citta’ di difendersi da attacchi nemici. SI prosegue per il monastero di Chrysorrogiatissa originariemente fondato il XII e dedicato a “ Nostra Signora del melograno d’oro”.Il monastero ha una importante collezione di icone e altri tesori.L’antica cantina del monastero produce dei vini piu pregiati di Cipro. Si prosegue per il villaggio di Statos-Ayios Fotios e visita di una cantina di dei vini .Le uve vengono raccolte a mano e lavorate immediatamente utilizzando la più recente tecnologia di vino: Attraversando la foresta di Paphos arriveremo al monastero di Kykkos il più ricco e prospero tra quelli dell’isola, si trova nella regione di Marathasa. È situato sul picco di una montagna, ad un’altitudine di 1318 metri, a nordovest dei monti Troodos. Dedicato alla Vergine Maria, il monastero possiede una delle tre icone attribuite a San Luca, l’Evangelista. L’icona, ricoperta da uno strato d’argento, è custodita in un reliquiario di madreperla e guscio di tartaruga, posto di fronte all’iconostasi. Costruita e decorata nel 1474, essa consta di un edificio piuttosto piccolo, con il caratteristico tetto spiovente di montagna. Il “Templon”, pervenutoci intatto, è di eccellente fattura e risale allo stesso periodo. Ritorno in albergo in pomeriggio . Venerdi - Kakopetria – Ayios Nicolaos – Podithou – Omodos – Tochni Partenza di mattina presto per visitare il villaggio di Kakopetria, pur essendo citata dagli annalisti medievali, esisteva -almeno -Dalla dominazione dei Franchi . La regione del villaggio è stato abitato intorno al 6 ° - 7 ° secolo e i vari scavi che sono stati condotti nel 1938 intorno al vecchio villaggio di Kakopetria. Proseguiamo per visitare le chiese Bizantine di Agios Nicolaos la quale e' completamente dipinta con affreschi che vanno dall'XI al XVII secolo . Nel percorso si può fermare alla piazza di Troodos e nei messi invernali Gennaio e Febbraio di solito si può anche sciare .     Cyprus Private Tour 5 Days/ 4 Nights From Ayia Napa/Protaras Pygmalion Tour PROGRAM 1st Day Arrival and transfer to the hotel in Ayia Napa/Protaras CURIUM – PAPHOS ► Distances The drive to Paphos reveals ever - changing scenery from vineyards and citrus groves to archaeological sites, all in a beautiful Mediterranean frame. Driving along the coast we head to the prominent archaeological site of Kourion. It is home of a magnificent Greco-Roman Theatre, stately villas and an early Christian Basilica with a baptistery attached to the north face, dating to the 5th century, which probably was the Cathedral of this city kingdom. Next stop is at Petra tou Romiou, regarded since ancient times as the birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love and fertility. Once in Paphos we head to the church of Panagia Crysopolitissa , built in the 13th century over the ruins of the largest Early Byzantine basilica on the island. Within the compound one can see St. Paul's Pillar, where, according to tradition, Saint Paul was flogged before the Roman Governor Sergius Paulus was converted to Christianity. Next to the picturesque harbor, in the Houses of Dionysus, we have the chance to admire some of the finest Roman mosaics dating the 3rd to the 5th century AD. This restored Roman villa probably belonged to a member of the ruling Roman class or to a local wealthy family. We finally visit the Tombs of the Kings. Spread over a vast area, these impressive underground tombs date back to the 4th century BC. They are carved out of solid rock with some being decorated with Doric pillars. Returned to your hotel late afternoon. 3rd Day NICOSIA NORTH AND SOUTH - Meeting with the guide and departure for Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, whose city centre is hedged by majestic Venetian walls. It is renowned for the archaeological and artistic treasures collected in its museums and, especially, to be the last city in the world divided by a wall. First visit at Archbishopric complex, which hosts the famous Byzantine museum, one of the most important museums in Europe of its kind, featuring the largest collection of icons on the island, and the Cathedral of St. John the inside contains a fresco cycle dating 1731. Through the Venetian Walls, via Famagusta Gate, we get to the Archaeological Museum where you can admire the fascinating collection of Cypriot artefacts and treasures of inestimable value. We continue to the old town of Nicosia (Laiki Yitonia), across the check-point, we will be guided to the Caravanserai, Buyuk Han, one of the best preserved Ottoman architecture. The Buyuk Han stands in the centre of the traditional market, within the walls, nearby the Selimiye Mosque, known formerly as the St.Sophia Cathedral. Return to the hotel in the afternoon. 4th Day TROODOS - Byzantine Churches (San Nicolaos, Kakopetria, Podithou, Asinou) Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the Troodos mountains and guided tour of some of the famous Byzantine churches, included in the 'UNESCO "World Heritage list: the Church of Ayios Nicolaos, completely painted with frescoes ranging from the eleventh to the seventeenth century , and the Byzantine church of Panagia of Pothithou. Free time for lunch. We continue our journey visiting the Panagia Tis Asinou Church, in Nikitari village, one of the ten UNESCO World Heritage churches on the Troodos. Built in a pine-clad area, it has some of the finest examples of Byzantine wall painting on the island.
