Along the way, a stop at the archaeological site of Chirokitia, an ancient Neolithic settlement; the excavations carried out have brought to light evidence of one of the most important Neolithic cultures in the world. Visit to the Cathedral of San Giovanni in the archbishop's palace which houses frescoes from 1731. Procedendo verso Paphos ci fermiamo a Petra tou Romiou dove, secondo la mitologia greca, Aphrodite emerse dalla schiuma delle acque .Cominceremo la nostra giornata visitando la chiesa di Ayia Paraskevi, una delle piu' interessanti chiese bizantine dell'isola, datata intorno al X secolo. Quindi potremo ammirare i famosi mosaici della casa di Dioniso. I pavimenti di queste ville patrizie risalgono ad un periodo tra il III e il V secolo d.C e sono considerati tra i piu belli mosaici del Mediterraneo orientale. Proseguiremo per visitare le Tombe dei Re che risalgono al IV secolo a.C, ricavate nella roccia e decorate con delle colonne doriche. Visiteremo successivamente il monastero di Ayios Neofytos fondato alla fine del XII secolo dallo scrittore ed eremita cipriota Neofytos. La Engleistra contiene alcuni dei piu’ bei affreschi bizantini (XII e XV secolo). L'ultima fermata si terra’ alla chiesa della Panagia Chrysopolitissa, costruita nel XIII secolo, all'interno del cui complesso si puo’ vedere la colonna di San Paolo, dove secondo la tradizione il santo venne flagellato. 3° GIORNO: NICOSIA NORD E SUD Prima colazione in hotel. Rientro in hotel in pomeriggio . 4° GIORNO: TROODOS - CHIESE BIZANTINE ( SAN NICOLAOS – KAKOPETRIA - PODITHOU – OMODOS ) Partenza per i monti Troodos e visita guidata di alcune delle famosissime chiese bizantine, catalogate dall’ Unesco “patrimonio dell’umanità da tramandare alle generazioni future”: visita della chiesa bizantina di Ayios Nicolaos, completamente dipinta con affreschi che vanno dal XI al XVII secolo, e della chiesa bizantina di Panagia di Pothithou . Tempo libero per pranzo e proseguiamo per visitare Il villaggio di Omodos e sosta per la visita del villaggio montano con il famoso monastero della Santa Croce fondato da S. Elena nel 327 d.C. Ritorno in albergo in pomeriggio . 5° GIORNO:. CURIUM - KOLOSSI - APOLLO YLATIS – (mezza giornata) Raggiungeremo quindi Curium, importante città-stato, oggi uno dei luoghi archeologici piu’ importanti dell'isola. Qui visiteremo il magnifico teatro greco-romano del II secolo a.C, la casa di Eustolio, originariamente una villa romana, divenuta nel primo periodo cristiano un centro pubblico per le attivita' ricreative, una basilica paleocristiana, risalente al V secolo, che fu probabilmente la cattedrale di Kourion. Proseguiremo poi per Kolossi, sede dell’omonimo castello, esempio di architettura militare, costruito originariamente nel XIII secolo. Dopo la caduta di Acre nel 1291, divenne la base militare dei Cavalieri di S.Giovanni di Gerusalemme. L'ultima tappa ci portera’ al santuario di Apollo Ylatis, dio dei boschi, il cui culto fu celebrato dall'VIII secolo a.C fino al IV secolo d.C. Gli scavi hanno portato alla luce terme, luoghi per i pellegrini, una palestra ed un giardino sacro. Ritorno in albergo . 6° GIORNO : FAMAGUSTA – Partenza in mattinata alla volta della parte turco-cipriota. Prima visita a Salamina, fondata da Teucro nel 1180 a.C, al suo ritorno dalla guerra di Troia visiteremo il teatro, l’anfiteatro, il gimnasio, le terme e la palestra. Proseguiremo poi per la citta’ medioevale di Famagosta, le cui possenti mura ne testimoniano il glorioso passato e la storica necessita’ della citta’ di difendersi da attacchi nemici. Dopodiche’ visiteremo la cattedrale di San Nicolao (trasformata nella moschea di Lala Mustapha Pasha) nella quale, ai tempi dei Lusignani, aveva luogo l’incoronazione di molti dei sovrani di Cipro e Gerusalemme.Si avra’ quindi a disposizione del tempo libero per passeggiare nelle stradine di Famagosta per visitare il Castello di Otello (governatore veneziano di Cipro) e infine avremo la “visita” della parte di Famagusta tristemente famosa come “citta’ fantasma”.
